In the early spring of 2022, I was spending time with a group of friends, and the topic of conversation shifted to answering the question, “Who's one person you would do anything for—no questions asked?” Stumped, I said I didn’t know. Was there really a person who I was willing to be generous toward 100% of the time? Then one of my closest friends and roommate at the time chimed in and said, “Oh, I know EXACTLY who—literally anyone who has a baby.”

Boom. Guilty as charged. It is honestly true—I typically take little to no convincing to do a favor for my mama friends out there. A gift of my current life stage has been great flexibility, and let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than baby snuggles and giving your friends a small break from the incredible task of motherhood.

Following college, I began working in ministry with college students. Throughout those nine years, I had the privilege of walking with students through the highest highs and some very low lows. I have seen the power of building a community with a culture of support, empowerment, and friendship. I have seen the hardship students experience in isolation—when they have a problem they feel the rest of the world does not care to see.

It is through witnessing a great need that is not being met on campus and my love for caring for mamas and their babies that ultimately drew me to Baby Steps. I am so excited to be a part of bringing together the community of Tuscaloosa to support women on UA’s campus who have taken on the courageous task of parenting and pursuing their education.
